RSS reader Feedly is planning to launch a paid pro service and beef up its existing service with premium features.
Feedly Pro will cost $5 per month for new services like article search, save-to-Evernote integration, premium support and more secure browsing via “https” protocol.
Feedly launched a limited edition of the updated membership on Monday to raise “funds to buy the hardware necessary to launch Feedly Pro in a few weeks,” according to the FAQ section of its site. As of Monday afternoon, the limited edition was sold out.
For now, the pro version only will work on Feedly’s desktop site, but expect it to be available on mobile and cloud apps “shortly.” Moving forward, Feedly also said it will regularly introduce new features to Feedly Pro that users can to vote on.
RSS users are increasingly switching over to platforms like Feedly — along with competitors like Digg Reader and AOL Reader — after Google pulled the plug on its popular Reader service on July 1.
